« Nel 1963 volevo iniziare nuovamente a dipingere ma decisi di che non avrei più dipinto immagini astratte. Decisi di spingermi invece il più possibile all'esatto opposto. Compresi che proiettare e quindi disegnare i soggetti della fotografia, invece che copiarla a mano libera, avrebbe avuto un effetto realistico e impressionante. Copiare una fotografia era considerata una cosa discutibile. Andava contro tutto ciò che appresi alla scuola d'arte... Molte persone si arrabbiavano per ciò che stavo facendo e dicevano: "non è arte, non potrà mai essere arte. Questo mi diede lo spunto di perseverare nel mio intento, poiché mi piaceva fare qualcosa che faceva arrabbiare la gente... Mi divertivo un sacco. »
